MALDIVAS | PURE PRIZE FILLY MALDIVAS WINS GROUP I | | MALDIVAS (ARG) continued her rapid ascent in the three-year-old filly division with an explosive
five-length victory in the Gran Premio Seleccion de Potrancas (Arg-G1) on Sunday at Hipodromo La Plata.
The 2,000-meter (9.94-furlongs) classic distance was not a problem for the strapping PURE PRIZE
filly, who improved upon her third-place finish on a muddy track in the Clasico Polla de Potrancas (Arg-G2) on
July 18.
Tradizione Slam, by Grand Slam, finished second, four lengths clear of Excellent Note. Pride of Dignity, who
defeated MALDIVAS while winning the Clasico Polla de Potrancas, finished fourth as the second
betting choice. Favorite Stripestar, winner of the Clasico Diego White (Arg-G3), finished a disappointing ninth
in the ten-horse field.
Trained by Raul Ramallo and ridden by Gonzalo Hahn, MALDIVAS covered the 2,000 meters in
2:06.08 for her first Group 1 triumph and second career victory in three starts.
A six-length winner of her two-year-old debut at La Plata on June 15, MALDIVAS races for Stud Los
Retoños and was bred in Argentina by Haras Carampangue.
